Lake District launches £1million sustainable travel scheme

A new year-long programme funded with £1 million from the Department for Transport has been launched to maximise the benefits of cleaner, greener travel to Cumbria’s key tourist destinations.
Building on the successes of the GoLakes Travel programme, ‘See More: Cumbria and the Lake District’ has taken on the green travel baton to expand sustainable transport initiatives beyond the boundaries of the Lake District National Park.

See More will centre on four key visitor gateways: Carlisle to Hadrian’s Wall; Penrith into the Ullswater Valley; Keswick into Borrowdale; and the south eastern approaches into the central Lake District.

The new project is also expected to unlock more than £2million in private investment into the county’s transport network and is being delivered by a partnership of Cumbria County Council, the Lake District National Park Authority and Cumbria Tourism.
